ADOPTION PENDING

4/28/22 UPDATE - SPECIAL NEEDS

Keera came to us in November as a very shy little beagle girl. She was afraid to let people approach her even though she seemed happy to see them and was wagging her tail.  Keera made giood progress in her foster home and was adopted along with another shy female who was rescued along with her at the same time. It was a good try but after a little over 3 months the adopter felt they would not make as much progress together and returned Keera to us. She is in a different foster home now but happy as a lark and we think she benefitted quite a bit from the experience! She loves other dogs and there are plenty here for her to be with. Keera will need a family who has other dogs and who has worked with fearful dogs before - or is open to being trained.

EARLIER INFORMATION ABOUT KEERA
Keera is a delightfully small size and very pretty. In her foster home Keera is completely housetrained. When she needs to go she will just go to the door asking to be let outside. She eats her meals in her crate (she enjoys the coziness of a plastic vari-kennel). Keera is also used to staying in her crate when no one is at home, but otherwise she has the run of the house. She does tend to stay in the bedroom on the comfy dog beds, but she will venture to the living room occasionally and even sometimes gets the the zoomies running in and out of the door to the fenced dog yard. Keera follows her foster’s doggy pack of three dogs, and will take the opportunity to sleep on a dog bed with another dog when that opportunity is available. Keera is a quiet little girl, but when finished eating or when foster mom arrives home she does announce her desire to exit her crate with a soprano voice, happy feet, and a wagging tail. As soon as Keera is out of her crate, all noise stops. Keera has been treated for heartworms and is ready to find safe home where she can continue to grow and be happy - we do think she will do better with another dog.

NEW ARRIVAL:  Keera is one of four beagle mixes rescued from a rural Louisiana shelter. All four dogs are very shy and appear to have had little experience living inside a home...but The Good Life begins for them now! During our photo shoot, Keera was still very timid but seemed to gain some comfort from the little dog bed she sat in and responded well to some very slow and gentle affection. Keera did test heartworm positive though, so she will need to be treated before she is ready for adoption. We are very optimistic that the wonderful foster home where she will be going after her heartworm treatment will be able to help her gain the necessary confidence to adapt to her new lifestyle. We will update as we get more information about this sweet girl's progress.
