ADOPTION PENDING
Little Steffi needed a feminine name - she is so, so pretty! She came to us via our shelter partners in Louisiana and we suspect that her previous life may have been pretty grim. In the beginning, her behavior seemed to indicate she may have had to compete for her food and fight off male dogs, and most likely did not experience much, if any, affection from humans. However, she has transformed from an introverted, scared, skittish, and sometimes self-protective dog to a sweet, happy, and affectionate lap dog!
She gets straight A’s on potty training, and is excellent at notifying her foster mom when she needs to go outside. When she’s outside however, she prefers to potty discretely in the bushes. She’s 100% on the leash and is a friendly walker, going up to strangers asking for head pats! Caution is still exercised when initially introducing her to other dogs based on her background, but she has managed very well thus far on the daily elevator rides (she lives in a high-rise apartment) with other dogs and has a few regular doggy friends in the building. She does sleep quietly in her crate at night, but can whine for a few minutes once the door is shut. She loves to cuddle with her foster mom on the couch asking for belly rubs or snuggle alongside the older male beagle in his bed. She adores stuffed toys - Steffi's Stuffies - and will carry them all around even “burying” them under sofa pillows or in corners! Steffi has successfully completed her heartworm treatment and is healthy and active.
